Why the terms matter more than the headline

“288% welcome bonus.” “Up to 500%.” “588% package.” Headline percentages are built to grab you, and they tell you almost nothing about what a bonus is worth. The value is in the terms: a few short clauses that decide how much you must bet, what you can bet on, how fast, how much you can win, and what quietly cancels the lot.

Every bonus is a trade: the casino adds money, and you agree to bet a set amount under set rules before it becomes withdrawable. Break a rule, even by accident, and the casino can remove the bonus and its winnings. That’s the deal you accepted when you ticked the box, so read the box first.

Once you know the dozen or so clauses that matter, any bonus takes two minutes to decode. This guide walks through each one with real examples from our reviews, works out what a typical bonus costs, and ends with a checklist. For the wagering maths in depth, see our wagering guide.

The bonus terms decoder

Here’s every clause that decides a bonus, what it means in plain words, and how it reads at the casinos we’ve reviewed.

Wagering basis: the clause that doubles the work

The wagering requirement (turnover, playthrough, rollover) is the total you must bet before a bonus becomes cash. The multiplier gets the headline; the basis decides the workload. There are two:

• Bonus only: the multiplier applies to the bonus. A US$100 bonus at 25x means US$2,500 of bets.
• Deposit + bonus (D+B): the multiplier applies to both. A US$100 deposit plus a US$100 bonus at 25x means US$5,000 of bets, which is really 50x the bonus.

To compare offers fairly, convert everything to the bonus basis:

Bonus-basis multiplier = multiplier × (deposit + bonus) ÷ bonus

Here’s how the welcome offers in our reviews line up once converted:

Two warnings about the basis clause:

1. Read the casino’s own worked example. BK8’s reads: deposit 300, receive 300, wager 7,200 (12 × 600). me88’s: deposit 600, get 1,728, wager 2,328 × 35 = 81,480.
2. If the basis isn’t stated, assume deposit + bonus. MD88’s 288% says 35x without naming it, and MD88’s other deposit bonuses count deposit + bonus: (100 + 288) × 35 = 13,580, not 10,080.

Max bet, game weighting and excluded games

These three clauses control how you’re allowed to clear the turnover, and they’re the easiest to break by accident.

Max bet

The max bet is the largest stake allowed per spin, hand or bet while the bonus is active. Megapari, for example, caps bets at ≈ US$6 while its casino package is wagered. Go over it once and the casino can remove the bonus and its winnings. Watch for features that quietly raise your stake: Ante Bet, bonus buys and, in fishing games, a higher cannon level.

Game weighting

Weighting (or contribution) is the share of each bet that counts toward the turnover. Slots usually count 100%; lower-edge games count less. Real examples:

• BC.Game publishes a Wager Contribution page: bingo and Perya Color Game count 100%, most BC Originals 80%, and Crash and Blackjack 50%.
• Megapari counts its in-house MegaGames double toward the casino bonus, except blackjack.
• Winna’s VIP Match bonus counts its Originals and games with 98–99.1% RTP at 25%, and games above 99.1% RTP at 10%.

Weighting works both ways: a 50% game doubles the turnover you need, and Megapari’s double-count games halve it.

Excluded games and bet types

“Slots” rarely means every slot. The main welcomes in our reviews leave out the Malaysian app favourites almost everywhere:

• Maxim88’s 288%: PlayAce, Mega888 and 918Kiss.
• me88’s 288%: 918Kiss, Mega888, Spadegaming, Relax Gaming and V-Power.
• GOD55’s 255% (Malaysia): 918Kiss, Mega888 and Pussy888, plus Playtech and three smaller studios.
• MD88’s 288%: 918Kiss, Mega888 and Pussy888, plus Playtech, Relax Gaming, Habanero and others.
• AW8’s 150%: Pragmatic Play, Mega888, 918Kiss and Pussy888 slots.
• BK8’s 100% slots welcome: Kingmaker.

Some casinos also exclude ways of betting. UWIN33 doesn’t count draws, betting both sides, roulette bets covering 24 or more numbers, sports odds below 1.50, 3 Pictures, Casino Hold’em, poker, RNG table games or 4D. Betting both sides (Banker and Player, Dragon and Tiger, Big and Small) is widely banned, because it grinds turnover at almost no risk.

Durian tip: Before your first spin, open the bonus terms and search the page for three words: “maximum”, “exclude” and “contribution”. Between them, those three lines cover most of the ways a bonus gets voided by accident.

Expiry, max cashout and minimum deposit

Expiry: days to claim and days to clear

Every bonus has a clock. If the turnover isn’t finished in time, the bonus and its winnings are removed. The windows in our reviews vary a lot:

Short windows need time. DK88’s 25x the bonus is one of the fairest rules we’ve found, yet a US$100 bonus means US$2,500 of bets in 3 days: 5,000 spins at US$0.50, about 1,700 a day.

There are claim deadlines too. DK88 makes you choose your welcome on the sign-up screen, Maxim88’s free spins must be opened within 3 days, BK8’s first-bet refund must be claimed within 72 hours, and Winna’s Weekly Boosts expire after 7 days.

Max cashout and win caps

A max cashout limits what you can withdraw from a bonus, however much you win with it:

• DK88: bonus winnings cash out up to 5× the bonus. On a US$100 bonus, that’s up to US$500.
• MD88’s live casino welcome: cashouts capped at ≈ US$490.
• UWIN33’s ≈ US$2 free credit: one withdrawal between ≈ US$12 and ≈ US$24; anything above is forfeited.
• GOD55’s Mega888 / 918Kiss welcome: a max payout of ≈ US$315.

Separate from bonuses, some casinos cap daily winnings on the account itself. GOD55’s terms cap the entry group at ≈ US$7,340 a day (more for higher groups), and casino.guru notes a US$150,000 daily net-win cap at Maxim88’s Malaysian site. High rollers should ask support about their limit before chasing a big win.

Minimum and maximum deposit

The minimum deposit decides whether you qualify at all: ≈ US$7 at GOD55 and UWIN33, ≈ US$10 at DK88, ≈ US$5 at BK8, ≈ US$6 at Megapari, ≈ US$39 at me88, and ≈ US$24 for Maxim88’s 288% (≈ US$12 for its 100% offers). The maximum matters on big percentages: GOD55’s 255% reaches its ≈ US$625 cap at a ≈ US$245 deposit, and me88’s 288% stops growing at a ≈ US$780 deposit. Deposit more and the extra earns no bonus.

One bonus at a time, sticky rules and account checks

Stacking and wallet locks

Bonuses almost never stack. GOD55 allows one at a time and pauses rebates meanwhile, BK8’s promotions can’t be combined, and Megapari releases each deposit bonus only after the previous one is cleared. Maxim88 and me88 offer their welcomes only before you join any other promotion, so claim the welcome first. At Maxim88 and BK8, an active bonus also blocks a second transfer to the same provider until the turnover is complete.

Sticky vs non-sticky: whose money goes first

• Non-sticky (cash first): DK88 and UWIN33 both play your real money before the bonus. Win big before touching it and you can ask support about withdrawing the cash and dropping the bonus.
• Sticky: the bonus merges with your balance, and only winnings above it can be withdrawn.
• Released as cash: BC.Game’s bonus unlocks as you bet (wager × house edge × 1%), and every released amount is real cash with no expiry and no max cashout.

Payment and account rules

• Payment methods: UWIN33’s ≈ US$2 free credit can’t be cashed out in crypto, while GOD55 and MD88 add 1% (up to ≈ US$215) on big weekly crypto deposits.
• One account: MD88 allows one claim per person, household and IP, and me88’s terms ban multiple accounts per person, household or IP address.
• Local details: GOD55’s welcome needs a local mobile number and bank account.

Rebates and cashback: the low-wagering money

Welcome bonuses carry the heavy terms. Everyday returns usually carry light ones, and for many players they’re worth more over a month:

A no-turnover rebate is simple maths: turn over US$5,000 in a month at 1% and you get US$50 back, on games welcome bonuses often ignore, like live baccarat. One clash to know: GOD55 pauses rebates while a bonus is active, so its welcome also costs you rebate money until the turnover is done.

Worked example: what a US$100 bonus really costs

Every bonus has an expected cost: the amount you should expect to lose, on average, while clearing it. The formula is:

Expected cost of clearing = turnover × house edge

On a slot with 96% RTP, the house edge is 4%. Here’s a US$100 deposit run through five real term structures from our reviews:

What this tells you:

• Low-multiple offers are close to break-even on average, with a free shot at a big win: the bonuses to clear and cash out.
• The huge matches cost more than they give on average. They’re playtime bonuses: a US$100 deposit plays like US$355 or US$388, but you’ll usually hand the bonus back before you finish.
• RTP moves the numbers. On a 97% RTP slot such as JILI’s Super Ace, the BK8 row costs US$72 instead of US$96. Our RTP and RNG guide shows how to check your casino’s version.

These figures ignore max cashout caps, which can only lower a bonus’s value, and assume every bet counts 100%. Lower contribution or excluded games raise the cost further.

Your 7-step pre-claim checklist (and when to skip the bonus)

Run this before every deposit. It takes two minutes.

1. Convert the wagering to the bonus basis. Multiplier × (deposit + bonus) ÷ bonus. Up to about 30x the bonus is a clearable bonus; above about 40x it’s a playtime bonus.
2. Find the max bet and check whether Ante Bet, bonus buys or higher bet modes count toward it.
3. List the eligible and excluded games. Make sure the games you actually play count, and at what percentage.
4. Check the clock. Days to claim, days to clear, and whether that fits how often you play.
5. Look for a max cashout or win cap, and work out what it means for your deposit size.
6. Learn how to claim it. DK88 asks on the sign-up screen; GOD55, me88, Maxim88 and BK8 ask you to pick a promo code when you transfer to a game wallet; Megapari wants you to opt in before your first deposit. Miss the step and there’s no bonus.
7. Clear the account rules. One account per person and household, your own bank or e-wallet, and ID verification done early so a winning withdrawal isn’t held up.

Durian tip: Screenshot the bonus terms and your turnover progress when you claim. If anything is disputed later, a dated screenshot of the rules you accepted is the quickest way to sort it out with support.

When to skip the bonus

A bonus isn’t always the best deal. Skip it, or take a different offer, if:

• You can’t finish it in time. A smaller offer you can clear beats a giant one you can’t.
